About Me

Dr. Katy Cording about me

Katy Cording, PsyD, CGP

My name is Dr. Katy Cording (she/her). I am a Licensed Psychologist and a Certified Group Psychotherapist in the state of Pennsylvania. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Lafayette College in 2010. I graduated with my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from The George Washington University in 2014.

For over a decade, I worked in college counseling, including Temple University, West Chester University, Swarthmore College, and Lehigh University. I served as the Group Coordinator at the counseling center at both West Chester University and Temple University. I have received extensive training in group therapy over the years and consider this one of my life’s greatest passions. In addition, I specialize in couples therapy and relish the opportunity to work with couples as they navigate issues related to communication, intimacy, trust, and connection.

My Therapeutic Approach

Warmth, Curiosity, Compassion

At the core of my approach is the understanding that a trusting, open, and collaborative therapeutic relationship is essential to promoting and sustaining change. To that end, I bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion to my work and always strive to foster a safe, non-judgmental space for you to freely express your thoughts and feelings. I utilize a primarily relational psychodynamic/psychoanalytic framework and integrate other treatment modalities when appropriate.

I recognize that beginning therapy can be difficult, and I am committed to learning about my clients as the unique people that they are and the various life circumstances that bring them to therapy at a particular time. Therapy can be a powerful tool to find relief and achieve greater self-understanding and acceptance.

Committed to Multicultural Humility

As a psychologist committed to multicultural sensitivity and humility, I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and life stages. I work with emerging and young adults and adults of all ages in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.

Insight and Understanding

I believe our early life experiences shape the way we understand ourselves and how we interact with those around us. In our work together, I aim to help you identify the origins of your concerns to help you find greater insight and understanding of yourself.

My hope is that you will feel more empowered in your life to make choices and live life more aligned with your authentic self.

Finding a Treatment Fit

At the start of treatment, we will identify your particular goals and develop a plan to address your unique concerns. This may involve individual therapy, couples therapy, or group therapy, and I will help you decide a treatment approach that fits your wants and needs.

Because everyone is unique, I tailor my work to fit each individual's needs, integrating other treatment modalities when appropriate.
